Award-winning author, family business advisor and TEDx speaker David Bentall is coming to Victoria as a featured event speaker.

Key event sponsor: Mike Geric Construction. Participating Sponsor: CIBC Wood Gundy and CIBC Private Wealth

We consider this a flagship event for FBA VI and will be selling tables. This is an ideal event to invite key staff, suppliers, and other members of your family whether they are working in the business or not.

David Bentall probably has more first-hand experience in family business succession than anyone else in the province. “I was central to three separate family business succession efforts in our family,” said Bentall, grandson of Bentall Group patriarch Charles Bentall. The Bentall Group and its Dominion Construction built many key buildings in Vancouver’s downtown core from 1911 on.

Bentall experienced a traumatic transition in the late 1980s that fractured the powerful family empire and stripped him of a lifelong dream to lead the family business. That was followed by a successful transition, where he and two sisters bought Dominion Construction and Bentall ran the company which went on to build GM Place. Finally, he worked through a third, smooth transition in which he sold to his sister and brother-in-law in 1998. David has since been a professional family business advisor for many family businesses across Canada and beyond.

The first 60 people to register will receive a copy of his latest book, Dear Younger Me, which retails for $39.95 and is included in the event price. Additional books will be for sale at the event for a 50% discounted price.

This will be a sit-down dinner. Tickets are $200 per person and $1500 for a table of eight.
